Vale Farm

Vale Farm is a contemporary Cotswold barn conversion that turns an informal cluster of agricultural buildings into a singular, beautifully crafted country home. Thoughtful extensions and landscape interventions anchor the house within its rural setting, creating a home that feels rooted, expansive, and characterful.

The key design challenge was weaving together structures of varied scale and character into a coherent, liveable whole without losing their vernacular integrity.

The architecture honours the quiet poetry of the Cotswolds - original stonework, reclaimed timber, and subtle modern insertions coexist with craftsmanship that respects the building's past. Split-level arrangements capture sweeping views across the Gloucestershire countryside, drawing the landscape into the heart of the house.

Sustainability and modern comfort were seamlessly integrated without compromising authenticity.

Renewable technologies, such as heat source pumps, quietly support the home's environmental performance. Every intervention, from structural adjustments to interior detailing, was considered for longevity, beauty, and resonance with the existing fabric.

Completed in the late summer of 2013 after sixteen months of careful making, Vale Farm remains a home loved by its owners, who have since commissioned further work - a testament to the enduring value of careful design, craft, and architectural insight.
