Oeno Wines
Through light, craftsmanship, and bespoke design, a compact historic space is transformed into an immersive celebration of wine, character, and place.
The new shop for Oeno Wines in Cirencester reimagines wine retail within a compact, historic setting. In a small, windowless space, the brief was to move beyond the traditional cellar aesthetic while avoiding the blandness of typical displays, instead celebrating Oeno's direct relationships with growers and the individuality of each wine.
Lighting became the driving architectural element.
Focusing on the bottle labels as expressions of character, concealed LED strips wash light across each display, lifting the wines from dark matt grey shelving and softly illuminating the shop. Each bottle is paired with a back-lit information frame, making tasting notes clear and legible within the low-light environment.
Display and storage merge into a bespoke modular system.
With limited space and no back-of-house storage, the racking holds both individual bottles and full cases at every display point. Repeated across the walls, these units create a continuous architectural surface where lighting, structure, product, and information are fully integrated.
At the centre, a large white tasting and till table reflects light into the space and provides a calm, neutral backdrop for appreciating the wines, balancing the darker interior.
The result is an intimate, carefully crafted shop where architecture and light work together to showcase the diversity and stories behind each bottle, transforming a challenging historic room into a distinctive destination.
