Hazelbridge Cottage
A contemporary family home grounded in its rural setting, thoughtfully shaped around views, warmth, and the changing rhythms of daily life.
A new family home set within the Surrey Hills National Landscape, quietly embedded in its rural surroundings. Framed by neighbouring woodland and long views, it gathers shifting light through the day, anchoring everyday life to the rhythms of the landscape.
The design is shaped around family life and the experience of living close to nature.
Living spaces open toward the garden and trees beyond, allowing inside and out to flow effortlessly together. Broad openings and sheltered terraces draw the landscape into daily life, supporting outdoor living across the seasons.
Materiality establishes warmth and character throughout the home.
Drawing inspiration from South Africa, the interiors embrace a relaxed, tactile palette of natural timber, stone, and soft-toned finishes that encourage informal living and strong connections to the garden. Thresholds dissolve into outdoor rooms, reinforcing a sense of openness, comfort, and calm, while carefully detailed joinery adds depth and craft.
Environmental performance underpins the architecture.
Careful orientation, high levels of insulation, and robust natural materials ensure long-term comfort, efficiency, and a reduced environmental footprint.
The result is a contemporary rural home rooted in landscape and family life, combining warmth, durability, and a strong sense of place to create an environment that feels both grounded and generous, thoughtfully designed to support everyday living over time.
