Harleywood House

Harleywood House is a thoughtfully composed new family home set on a dramatic slope in the Cotswolds. The design captures long views across the valley and draws daylight deep into the plan, framing the landscape through generous glazing, window seats, and carefully positioned openings. The form is contemporary yet rooted in its place, designed to sit naturally on the hillside while responding fully to topography and outlook.

The key challenge was integrating a complex brief - openness for family gathering, private retreats, and sustainable living - onto a steep, exposed slope.

Vaulted ceilings, asymmetric rooflines, and bridging elements give the home a sense of movement and lightness, allowing spaces to flow and connect while following the contours of the land. Large, double-height living areas form a social heart, while quieter rooms provide retreat and privacy for adults and teenage children. Window seats, terraces, and careful orientation encourage visual connection to the lush valley and the changing seasons.

Natural materials, timber, local stone, and subtle metal detailing anchor the building in its rural setting while creating a refined and enduring character. The palette of finishes is tactile and calm, reinforcing a sense of continuity, connection, and comfort throughout the home.
